Absence does not make the heart grow fonder

They say absence makes the heart grow fonder. I don’t know who “they” are or what makes them the be all and end all of knowledge, but let me tell you – too much absence doesn’t lead to fondness; it develops into indifference.

I suppose I’ve always had a very on-again off-again relationship with my blog. There have been various periods in time when I would leave for months and find it difficult to come back; worse than that, I didn’t see the point in coming back.

The thing is, I love writing. I love spending hours on the verge of a nervous breakdown trying to take that perfectly lit and strategically composed photo that would be worthy of that coveted spot on Instagram. And I love interacting with the blogging community – you’re a great bunch! But coming up with content that you truly, truly love is difficult. Couple that with a busy lifestyle and you’ve got yourself one neglected blog space.

Unlike a few years ago, my life is now relatively busy. I work full time, study part time, and spend the weekends with my somewhat-long-distance boyfriend. Any time that I find myself motivated to do something productive is dedicated to studying…

And then comes the guilt. I think about the money I’ve paid to host my site; the time I’ve put into the design and previous content; the time I put into getting to know people, only to abandon the internet and disengage from the community… It’s heartbreaking. So I come back and the process starts all over again.

So I guess my question is – how do you guys stick to it? What motivates you to keep coming back and dedicating the  little precious time you have to your little corner of the internet?

Let me know!
